ENCOUNTERS

Some subjects will not dissolve.

Most of my work follows form to the edge of disappearance. Here it meets something that holds its ground and looks back. The animals — musk oxen on the sea ice of north-east Greenland at thirty below, polar bears on Svalbard under the midnight sun — were aware of me and did not retreat. What passes in that moment is mutual. The encounter is the subject.

HELD GROUND

Scoresby Sund, Greenland 2026

Made at −31°C in Scoresby Sund, Greenland, these images follow musk oxen across sea ice—Pleistocene survivors whose direct gaze turns observation into encounter.

PORTRAITS OF THE POLAR BEAR

Midnight sun. The bear looks back. Proximity displaces symbolism. Presence that will not dissolve into landscape or metaphor.
